Whether you are brand new to selling on Ebay or you have been selling for any length of time, you know that upping your shipping game only makes your store and you as a seller look more professional. I’m going to share with you a few simple things that you can implement to possibly give yourself a bit of an edge over other sellers.
- First, if you have an Ebay store subscription, stop everything you’re doing (after reading this article of course) and go to your ‘manage your store’ tab in My Ebay. Scroll down a bit and click on ‘subscriber discounts‘. Once there, click on the tab for ‘Ebay shipping supplies’. Did you know that you are eligible for credit of FREE merchandise at the Ebayshippingsupplies store. This is a credit for FREE merchandise of your choice of Ebay branded items such as boxes, and tape. And the best thing about this, is you get to take advantage of it 4 times a year! That is once every quarter. The credit amount is based on what store level you have. Follow the tabs that I outlined, and you will get a code to copy and paste at the checkout screen. Be sure to put this on your calendar to check back each quarter because its a “use it or lose it” thing. It does not roll over, and you can not accumulate credit from quarter to quarter. I just got the Ebay branded packing tape and two sets of boxes all for $.21!! I went over a bit. - The second thing is, don’t forget a Thank You card. This does not have to be a big written out card inside an envelope. I mean, if you have the time and want to do that, then by all means. But for those who are selling a lot and listing a lot and want to really put a little something extra into all the effort, consider a small written thank you. It is such a small and easy thing and goes a LONG way to make your buyer feel appreciated for choosing you. It definitely gives you an edge over your competition, and lets face it, your buyer can shop for your product anywhere. Make them feel like you are thankful they chose YOU. Here is an EASY way to do that. These are the ones that I use, and I just hand write the name of our store right on the card and slip it into the tissue paper before it goes into the packaging. I have noticed an increase in my feedback score since starting this.
- And speaking of tissue paper, every single package that I prepare starts off with tissue paper. Again, a quick and simple thing to make you look more organized, professional and like you know what this game is all about! Consider it part of the cost of doing business, to make your store be the one they remember and talk about. This is the kind I use, because it is the exact perfect size for the items I ship and it lasts a long time. You don’t want pieces that are too big or too small and because I mostly ship clothes and shoes, a 15″ x 20″ sheet is exactly right. Each shoe gets wrapped in one piece before its placed in its final shipping bag or box. Things tend to shift and move around inside even the most well packaged items. So, you don’t want your items rubbing together and causing any marks or wear in the transition to its final destination. A simple wrap with tissue will prevent any problems happening in transit. Plus it looks great and professional to the buyer.
- The last thing that I will mention is FREE shipping supplies from USPS. If you are already selling on Ebay, then chances are you already know about this. But if you don’t, then make sure to take time to check this FREE source from the USPS out. Go to usps.com and create an account. Click on Postal Store, then Shipping Supplies. Once there, click on Free Shipping Supplies. Here you will find over 70 items to choose from that will ship right to your door, for FREE! FREE is good, right? We all like things for FREE, especially when we are running our own business and every single dime counts. Priority mail boxes and mailers are available in a host of different sizes and shapes to fit any thing you need to ship. Keep in mind, these boxes don’t belong to you even though they are in your possession. They are still the property of the USPS, so don’t use them for ANYTHING except their intended use. The bonus, is that your mail carrier will pick up your prepared priority boxes and mailers right at your door, when you schedule a pick up. This is an amazing service provided by the USPS, that allows you to keep right on listing, packaging and shipping without spending time and gas on postal drops.
