SIMPLICITY, how to make your home a place of comforting rest

Nothing is more stressful to me then a messy home. I find that I can almost roll with the punches on everything else that happens in my day, but if I wake up to a messy kitchen, or come home after a long day to piles of mess and clutter, I find myself becoming increasingly agitated. And I’ve even written before about why clutter makes us so angry. It’s so easy to place the blame and not take responsibility for the way it is, and how it got that way. We blame the kids, work, busy school schedules, husband/wife, family, or need for more free time in general. (more…)

The ULTIMATE Guide to Design Styles: Farm House Part 1

It’s no secret that farm house style for architecture and decorating has made a huge surge in the interior design world. But they weren’t really called “farm houses” until the 19th century. In the mid to late 1800’s they were called folk houses, and were much simpler then what we consider to be country houses today. In fact “modern farmhouse” style has become one of the most popular design aesthetics of the 21st century. If down home style appeals to you, you don’t need to live in a barn to embrace country charm. Check out these gorgeous modern farm houses to give you inspiration: (more…)

What is Homesteading?

What is homesteading by the way? The dictionary defines it as any dwelling with its land and buildings where a family makes its home, a house or estate and the adjoining land, buildings, etc, esp a farm. I’m from the city, so  I have never been much into the cultural definition of the word which may imply “living off the grid”, being self-sufficient and canning all of our food for winter, etc. Don’t get me wrong, this has become very appealing to me and I have looked into all of that. I even have a canner in storage just waiting to be used. We live on a farm, so a certain amount of homesteading just comes with the territory. (more…)
